Punishment Delayed

American Prospect Online - Punishment Delayed: "Samson and her family are among possibly thousands of Hurricane Katrina victims who are being denied help because of past drug convictions. Tough-on-crime laws passed mostly in the 1990s bar drug felons -- though not other kinds of offenders -- from receiving a range of federal assistance, from student loans to cash welfare, now known as Temporary Aid to Needy Families (TANF)."

lots of people are being denied hurricane aid because of past drug charges. just because this guy smoked crack six years ago, the feds won't help him rebuild his life after the hurricane... this is typical of the problem with the drug war.

the drug war must be stopped... i'm so freaking angry right now that i'm shaking...

Relax the back, man!
But, yeah, that shit is fucked up. Even though they are not being punished for doing drugs. They are being punished for getting caught.
